After breakfast, continue north towards Hunza Valley along the magnificent Karakoram Highway.

En route, stop at Thalpan to explore the ancient Buddhist rock carvings, where access and time permit. These historical remains reflect the region's importance as a corridor of cultural exchange along ancient Central Asian trade routes.

Enjoy scenic viewpoints overlooking the surrounding mountain ranges and, when visibility permits, admire views towards Nanga Parbat.

Continue towards Hunza, stopping at suitable viewpoints for photographs of the dramatic valleys and snow-covered peaks. If conditions allow, enjoy a view of Rakaposhi before arriving in Karimabad, the cultural heart of central Hunza.

Check into your hotel and spend the evening relaxing amid the spectacular mountain scenery.

Continue to the surrounding village lanes, where you may encounter blossoming orchards, traditional houses, local handicrafts and everyday village life.

Later, visit Altit Fort, an ancient stronghold overlooking the Hunza River valley. Explore the historic complex and enjoy the remarkable views of the surrounding settlements and mountains.

Depending on flowering conditions, take a leisurely walk through nearby orchards to photograph apricot, cherry, almond or other fruit trees in bloom.

In the late afternoon, drive to Duikar viewpoint for panoramic views across Hunza Valley. On a clear evening, enjoy the changing light over Rakaposhi, Ultar Sar, Golden Peak and the surrounding Karakoram peaks.

Return to Karimabad for dinner and overnight accommodation.

Seasonal note: Blossom walks are planned according to the flowering stage and local conditions. Peak bloom cannot be guaranteed on a fixed date.

Continue to Gulmit, a traditional Wakhi settlement known for its distinctive cultural heritage and mountain scenery. Depending on opening hours, explore local cultural spaces, handicraft shops or historic parts of the village.

Proceed towards the Hussaini Suspension Bridge, where you can admire the dramatic river landscape and, if access is permitted and you feel comfortable, experience the bridge crossing.

Later, visit viewpoints overlooking the iconic Passu Cones, a magnificent series of sharply pointed peaks that form one of the most recognisable landscapes in Upper Hunza.

Arrive at your guesthouse in Passu or Gulmit and enjoy a peaceful evening surrounded by the mountains.

Day 6: Upper Hunza and Khunjerab Pass – Journey Towards the China Border

Driving time: Approximately 5–7 hours round trip, excluding extended stops
Overnight: Passu or Gulmit

After breakfast, begin your journey along the spectacular Karakoram Highway through Gojal Valley towards Sost and Khunjerab National Park.

The route passes through rugged mountain terrain and high-altitude landscapes, offering opportunities to admire the remarkable scenery of the upper Karakoram.

If the road is officially open and weather and road conditions are suitable, continue to Khunjerab Pass, approximately 4,693 metres above sea level, near the Pakistan–China border.

Spend time appreciating the dramatic high-altitude environment and looking for wildlife from a respectful distance. Sightings of wildlife are never guaranteed.

On the return journey, stop in Sost, a key border town, where time permits a brief visit to the local market.

Return to Passu or Gulmit for dinner and overnight accommodation.

Important seasonal information: Khunjerab Pass may be inaccessible because of snow, severe weather, road closures or official restrictions. If access is not possible, this excursion will be replaced with a suitable alternative in Upper Hunza, such as additional time in Gulmit, scenic viewpoints around Passu or accessible glacier viewpoints.

The final decision to proceed will depend on current conditions and local safety advice.

Day 7: Passu to Shimshal Valley – Discover the Wakhi Highlands

Driving time: Allow approximately 3–4 hours each way, subject to road conditions and stops
Overnight: Shimshal village guesthouse, subject to access

After breakfast, prepare for an excursion into the remote and spectacular Shimshal Valley.

Travel from Upper Hunza in an appropriate local four-wheel-drive vehicle, provided the road is open and local operators confirm that conditions are safe.

The journey follows a dramatic mountain road through rugged terrain, narrow valleys and spectacular highland landscapes.

On arrival in Shimshal, discover a distinctive Wakhi settlement renowned for its strong cultural traditions, mountain farming and pastoral heritage.

Enjoy a relaxed village walk and learn about traditional lifestyles, local customs and the challenges of living in a remote mountain environment.

With prior arrangements and the agreement of local hosts, visit a traditional Wakhi home and enjoy a local meal or cultural gathering, subject to availability.

Spend the evening experiencing the peaceful atmosphere of the valley and the hospitality of the local community.

Important seasonal information: Shimshal is remote, and its access road can be affected by snow, rockfall, landslides and other hazards. The excursion is conditional on safe road access and local assessment.

If travel to Shimshal is not advisable, the itinerary will be adjusted to include an additional night in Upper Hunza and alternative cultural and scenic activities around Passu and Gulmit.

Alternatively, explore NLI Market for local handicrafts, traditional products and souvenirs.

Check into your hotel, enjoy dinner and rest before your scheduled flight to Islamabad.

Travel note: Due to the long drive from Shimshal, sightseeing in Gilgit is subject to arrival time. If the itinerary has been adjusted because of road closures, the overnight location and transfer arrangements will be confirmed in advance.

Day 9: Gilgit to Islamabad – Scenic Flight and Departure

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast, transfer to Gilgit Airport for your scheduled flight to Islamabad, subject to airline operations and weather conditions.

Road conditions in northern Pakistan can change quickly. Snowfall, landslides, rockfall, roadworks and other seasonal factors may affect the itinerary.
